I’ve wanted to try Vallejo paints for a while, but couldn’t find the justification to my wife to buy yet another set of paints. So I bought her a bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates, and bought the Extreme Modelling Tank Set.
Not only were they delivered in record time, (ordered Thursday, delivered Friday!), but they are a pleasure to use. A slight opaque finish gives you the ability to blend the overspray nicely, and enough time to build up several coats in a short time. The delivery of the paint straight into the feeder cup via the eye dropper system is a real bonus, no more strange looks when asking the local chemist for syringes, so you can measure precisely the amount of Tamiya paint to thinner, Vallejo Air is ready to go. With such a vast range of colours and the ability to mix and dilute with tap water, shade and variations are limited by one’s own imagination. To get a semi gloss finish I used a 50/50 mix of paint to Johnsons Klear (Future), which worked very well, vary the ratio’s to get different effects.
Clean up is a vast improvement also, with the airbrush under a steady stream of water from the tap, until the spray runs clear, it took about 2 minutes. I would still recommend a branded airbrush cleaner for a full dismantle and clean though.
I will be replacing my paint stock with Vallejo Air, and Panzer Aces range in due course, my wife is going to get sick of chocolates, and develop hay fever soon no doubt!
