The passenger car Moskvitch-400 had been in producing in Moscow Plant of Small Cars (ZMA) since December 1946. It was an exact copy of the pre-war 4-door Opel Kadett K38 variant. It was replaced by improved Moskvitch-401 model with engine of increased power since 1954.
Moskvitch cars were produced in different types. Moskvitch-401-420 cars with 4-door closed saloon bodies were the most numerous. There were total produced 216 006 saloons since 1946 till 1956.
