Introduction
We are very fortunate in being able to present this (and the other two sets) having received advance samples of the kits from the manufacturer. Masterbox should, by now, need little in the way of introduction as they are featuring heavily in both the Reviews and News section of the site. The company itself has now become one of the most innovative and imaginative of the 'Newer' companies on the market. Although it took them a time to establish a good reputation for quality, the last year has seen a 'quantum leap' and are now firmly established amongst the top 3-4 plastic figure manufacturers. This is due, in no small part, to the standard they have established for highly-animated sculpting...
The Figure set
3519 - U.S. Machine-gunners is a simple set consisting of just 24 parts on a single, light-grey sprue. The set consists of two figures and a tripod-mounted, Browning A 1917 MG. The MG is is the early, water-colled version and includes the condensor tin, and the hose which led from the water jacket to the collecting tin.
The figures are portrayed wearing the U.S. infantry M-1941 Field jacket (Parson's Jacket) which was khaki cotton. Footwear is the (commonly seen) Model 1939 shoe worn with the (earlier) leggings. This makes this set very useful for modellers working in the earlier period of WWII although telements of the uniform could be seen at the end of the war in Europe.
Both figures come with additional equipment such as canteens and pistol holsters.
Not going into the 'full' details of a review, the impression of the set is good - nice, crisp moulding with little in the way of mould-lines or flash.
Conclusions
A simple, but highly versatile set for anyone modelling earlier-period U.S. Infantry The real bonus in this set is undoubtedly the Browning MG which has been woefully represented in plastic. It's also good to see a (modern) set of U.S: Infantrymen - this set represents great potential for conversion and improvement.
Highly Recommended
