RV07093

Revell 1:24 London Taxi

SRP £19..99

The FX4, which was produced beginning in 1958, characterises the appearance of the typically black-painted classic British taxi. Black was never officially prescribed for taxis, but it generally won out as such, since most FX4s were delivered in this colour. This 55 HP-strong car possessed a diesel motor featuring 2,178 ccm cubic capacity, which offered sufficient drawing power for inner-city personal transport. Although this car, which was capable of up to 95 kilometers per hour, was used throughout the country, local culture described it as the 'London Taxi' because of its frequency in the country's capital, where it was often seen as a regular fixture on the city's streets. FX4 has constantly been altered and improved over the course of the years. The final model ended production in 1997.

AIR04053

Airfix 1:72 - Fairey Swordfish

£12.99

The Royal Navy's primary torpedo bomber of the Second World War, the Swordfish, despite its obsolescence, proved to be an effective anti-submarine and torpedo bomber right up until the end of hostilities in 1945.  In fact, the Swordfish went on to outlive its intended replacement, the Albacore, in Royal Navy Service. Involved in such famous actions as the Taranto raid, the Bismarck operation and the Channel Dash, the vulnerable but effective Swordfish firmly cemented its place in aviation folklore.

Initially, the Swordfish operated from the large fleet carriers.  Later it operated from escort carriers and were very effective against U-boats.  The nickname 'Stringbag' indicated the versatility of the Swordfish, which could carry an unlikely combination of loads, but also referred to its jungle of bracing wires, which belonged to a past age. The Swordfish remained operational until the end of the war, gaining the distinction of being the last biplane to see active service. The Airfix kit contains a folding wing option.

AIR03031

Airfix 1:72 - Grumman Duck

SRP - £8.99

Used by every branch of the United States armed forces from before the Second World War to just after, the J2F Duck proved to be a rugged and dependable utility floatplane.  Deployed in a variety of uses from air-sea rescue to anti-submarine patrols, the Duck was to be found from the cold wastes of Alaska to the heart of the South Pacific.  Also exported, the Duck found widespread use in South America, where its strength and easy flight characteristics were much appreciated.

This military workhorse did a tremendous job but never got the publicity of its more glamorous cousins.  It could carry bombs, act as a transport, be used for photo-reconnaissance and rescues, usually when the normal aircraft for these roles were unavailable for both the USN and the USCG. This tremendous utility aircraft was flown by many countries well after the war ended.
